An event for thanksgiving and celebration
Twice a year, the Ga fisherfolk go on a float with drums, singing and dancing.
This sight is not only mesmerizing but interesting to behold.
The bright colours of cloth they wear represent the different fishing clans in their communities.
Among the Ga, the tradition serves to signify the beginning of the new year by the local calendar, which begins in September, right after the the Homowo Festival.
Lately, the spectacle also celebrates the upcoming global New Year, which starts in January, after New Years Eve.
